“Nigerian Workers Protest Hardship, Halt Ministerial Nominee Screening”

In a recent development, members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) took to the streets and occupied the Nigerian National Assembly complex to protest against the hardships caused by the removal of petroleum subsidy. Led by NLC’s National Chairman, Joe Ajaero, and Festus Osifo of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the protesters halted the screening of ministerial nominees. They expressed frustration over the inability to provide for their families and commute to work, highlighting the worsening poverty in the country.

Demanding a reversal of the petroleum subsidy removal, the workers carried placards emphasizing the impact of fuel price increases on inflation and poverty. Despite the protests, some senators, including the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and his Deputy, Barau Jibrin, arrived at their offices for the scheduled screening of the remaining ministerial nominees.
