Nigeria’s Interior Ministry Ends Manual Documentation, Moves Fully to Electronic Correspondence

By Francis Wilfred

The Ministry of Interior has officially ended manual documentation and will fully adopt electronic correspondence for all official communications effective December 1, 2025. The move is part of the Ministry’s digital transformation agenda and aligns with the Digitalisation Reform Pillar of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP 2025).

The directive follows an order from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, which mandates all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to transition to electronic communication and records management.

In a statement, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, confirmed that all letters, mails, and physical documents will no longer be accepted after the effective date. She said all official submissions must be sent through the Ministry’s approved digital platforms.

Designated channels for electronic communication include the Interior Correspondence Platform via email at (https://interas.interior.gov.ng) and the Ministry of Interior Official Website at (https://www.interior.gov.ng). Submissions will be accessible through the backend after registration.

Dr. Ajani emphasized that the shift to digital correspondence reflects the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing service delivery, improving transparency, and supporting the Federal Government’s broader digitalization agenda.

“The adoption of electronic communication ensures timely, secure, and efficient processing of all requests and documents. It also strengthens accountability and fosters a fully modernized public service,” she said.

The Ministry urged all MDAs, partners, organizations, and the general public to comply with the directive to ensure smooth operations and uninterrupted processing of official communications.

This transition is expected to improve efficiency across government operations, reduce paperwork, and promote environmental sustainability by minimizing the use of physical resources.

The Ministry of Interior’s move is part of a larger government-wide effort to digitize public services, improve record management, and facilitate faster decision-making processes across all federal institutions.

Officials reaffirmed that the digital platform will provide real-time tracking of submissions and enhance overall operational efficiency, strengthening the relationship between the government and citizens.
