No extension of projects deadline in FCT – Wike

The FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike has said that there will be no extension of projects deadline that will outlive his administration.

Wike mentioned this at the flag – off ceremony of the construction of the Access Road from Arterial N11 to Judges’ quarters within Cadastral Zone BO7 , Katampe district, Mabushi.

The FCT Minister said, “No project under our tenure will stay beyond us, no. Any project we award we will make sure are completed.”

Wike explained that extension of projects incurs variation or augmentation, which his administration will never entertain.

He said,”We will not leave any abandoned projects to anybody.No. We will not leave any project whereby there will be variation or augmentation.”

” In our time there will be nothing like variation or augmentation . So we will pay you as at when due.”

In accordance with the mandate of Mr. President, Wike said that every district in Abuja is expected to have the basic infrastructure that cities are supposed to have.

” Before we create a new district , the one that has been created should have all the basic infrastructure that cities are supposed to have.”

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of Katampe Access Road construction, the minister said, “we were in Katampe yesterday, today we are on the Mabushi axis. We will not rest until we see that all the districts are all connected with good, adding that what makes a city clear is a good network of roads.

Furthermore, the minister noted that a good network of roads adds to the economic value of land, citing instances where prices of lands skyrocket by 500% to due to good road network.

The minister hinged on the economic activities that can go on in cities with infrastructure, and emphasized, “I see that for a city like Abuja we have no choice than to provide the basic infrastructure like a good network of roads.”

However , he re-assured the CGC construction company handling the road project that adequate provision has been made to that the road is completed within the time, which is in May 2025.

The FCT Minister who flagged off the groundbreaking ceremony said, We on our part will make sure we do not owe you. We will pay you immediately.

These roads are very key to us in order to ensure development to reduce the hardship that our people are facing, he affirmed.

The Executive Secretary of FCDA, Engineer Shehu Hadi Ahmed in an overview of the project said that the 3.2 km road project at Mabushi site is aimed at opening up Katampe and Mabushi communities for development will be delivered by May 2025.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, Senator David Jim-Kuta, goodwill address described the road project as another milestone achievement for the people of the FCT and the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President.

Deputy Managing Director, CGC construction company, the  contractor handling the project, Mr. Fan Xiaojing, assured the minister that the project will be delivered in time to meet President’s Tinubu’s second year anniversary in office in May 2025.
