Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has declared that no local government area in the state is under the control of bandits or terrorists.
He made this assertion during an interactive session with journalists at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, on Tuesday, where he briefed the media on the steps his administration has taken to tackle insecurity in the state.
Governor Mutfwang emphasized that, contrary to widespread perceptions, Plateau State remains relatively safer than many other states in the North.
“Though there have been pockets of violence in some areas, we’ve made significant progress in restoring peace,” he said.
He noted that upon assuming office on May 29, 2023, his administration immediately set up a security committee to address the persistent insecurity across the state. The committee, he said, has been working tirelessly to improve the situation.
The governor also revealed plans to revamp Operation Rainbow — a state-led security initiative — to complement the efforts of Operation Safe Haven, the military task force responsible for maintaining peace in Plateau.
On governance, Mutfwang reiterated his commitment to workers’ welfare, stating that civil servants are beginning to regain their dignity.
“Our workers are regaining their pride. We’ve restored dignity and hope in the Plateau workforce,” he said.
The governor also spoke about efforts to revitalize the state’s tourism sector, announcing that Jos Wildlife Park is undergoing a comprehensive overhaul, while the Plateau and Hill Station Hotels are being revived to restore the state’s image as the “home of peace, culture, and tourism.”
“We are revamping critical sectors aimed at bringing massive development to our people,” he added.
