The North Central Development Commission (NCDC) has begun consultations with security agencies in Nasarawa State to strengthen collaboration for regional development and stability.The commission’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Cyril Yiltsen Tsenyil, led a delegation to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) in the state.According to a statement from the commission, Tsenyil said the visits were to appreciate existing support and build closer cooperation to enable the NCDC deliver on its mandate across the North Central region.
He noted that development efforts in areas such as mining, agriculture, infrastructure, tourism and environmental management depend on improved security.“ Development cannot thrive without peace and stability,” he said, adding that the commission aims to complement, not replace, the roles of state and local governments.
NSCDC State Commandant, Brah Samson Umoru, described the engagement as timely and pledged the corps’ support, saying its community-based operations align with the commission’s goals.
At the Nasarawa State Police Command, Commissioner of Police Shettima Jauro Mohammed welcomed the initiative and advised the commission to integrate security planning into its projects.The DSS State Director, Usman Ibrahim Biu, also assured continued cooperation, noting that enhanced security would help unlock the region’s economic potential.The NCDC said the engagements would continue with other stakeholders as it begins operations across the region.
