First Republic politician and member of the defunct Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU), Elder Tanko Yakasai, has again made his position known on the ongoing debate about returning the country to Parliament system of government.
The elder statesman and age-long chairman, Northern Elders Council (NEC), who made his position known in a chat with our Kaduna correspondent had consistently held sway that the north is also not afraid of any form of restructuring.
In a civic reaction to the topical issue of parliamentary system, elder Yakasai said the system is less expensive to operate and more in tune with true democratic.
“I still believe parliamentary system is less expensive to operates and more in tune with true democracy’, he said.
Yakasai who was among those championing the country’s restructuring, decades ago had stated the north is not afraid of restructuring of Nigeria nation being agitated by sections of Nigerians then.
He had during in an interview, explained that Nigerian constitution lacks the provisions for re-negotiation of the entity and unity of the country.
He said the difficulty surrounding the agitation for restructuring revolved around the absent of the provisions for re-negotiating in the Nigerian entity in the independence constitution the country inherited from the white colonialist.
He was an ardent supporter of ex- president Goodluck Jonathan administration for obvious reasons, he never hide or denied till date.
