Northern leaders, represented by the League of Northern Democrats (LND), have established a committee to review President Bola Tinubu’s four Tax Reform Bills. The move follows widespread concerns about the potential adverse effects of the reforms, particularly on Northern Nigeria.
The committee, comprising experts in law, accounting, legislation, and academia, aims to examine each clause of the proposed bills. According to LND spokesman Dr. Ladan Salihu, the review seeks to ensure the reforms align with the principles of justice, equity, and prosperity.
Key objectives include identifying inequitable provisions, proposing amendments, and ensuring compatibility with constitutional and cultural norms. The findings will be shared publicly in an accessible format for policymakers, legislators, and the public.
The LND has reiterated its commitment to advocating for policies that promote fairness, unity, and sustainable development across Nigeria. The public is encouraged to await the comprehensive report, which aims to clarify the bills’ implications and the LND’s position on the reforms.
