NUJ, Foresters Sign Mou To Enhance Tree Planting

Speaking during the launching of Go Green Project at the NUJ press center, the State Council Chairman Dalhatu Abdullahi S/Magori explained that tree planting is an environmental process of germinating tree seedlings from nursing ground to transplanting at desired space.

He said it is done for the purpose of aiding reforestation, environmental protection or landscaping further stating that trees contribute significantly to man and his environment through the provision of oxygen, supporting wildlife and carbon sequestration among others.

He said another reason for tree planting is that global temperatures need to be kept from rising adding that it is also to create awareness for rural communities to understand the importance of tree planting.

Furthermore, Magori suggested incorporating10 Junior Secondary and Primary Schools and a tripartrite partnership involving Shehu Maikoli Foundation, NUJ Sokoto Council and Eco Africa Climate Change Foundation to aid fundraising for raising the marales of working journalists in the state adding that the ground breaking ceremony coming up on the 4th August is expected to launch and inaugurate schools foresters clubs with the support of Universal Basic Education Board, Foresters Association of Nigeria as well as engagement of General Public into the plantation.

Speakers after speakers in person of the Chairman SUBEB Altine Shehu Kajiji,Professor Abubakar Bello Gwaram of the Department of Forest and Environment Usman Danfodio University and Dr. Ayuba Dan’asbe Umar remarked that there is need for individuals synergistic collaboration in order to boost economy through planting of economic trees which shall also serve as a means of reducing desertification.

They said apart from being a support to solving domestic problems, trees also reduce heat and provide clean oxygen o all living things.

Highlight of the ceremony was signing of MOU and inauguration of 11 man committee drawn from the 7 chapels,NAWOJ as well as NUJ and Go Green Project.

The inauguration was overseen by Barrister Jamila Umar Anka.
