The Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Segun Salami, has pledged to collaborate with the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) to enhance revenue generation in the state.
Comrade Salami made this commitment on Thursday in Lokoja during a courtesy visit to the Chairman of KGIRS, Alhaji Salihu Sule Enehe, alongside members of the chapel’s executive committee.
Speaking during the visit, Salami highlighted the need for the KGIRS to strengthen its synergy with journalists in the state to ensure broader publicity and better results. He emphasized that the agency is underreported and called for collaborative efforts to create public awareness about the importance of prompt tax payments.
“We, as journalists, are ready to fulfill our social responsibility by assisting the agency in achieving its revenue generation goals for the Kogi State Government. Through our platforms, we will enlighten citizens on the necessity of regular and prompt tax payments,” Salami stated.
He further noted that journalists play a crucial role in informing citizens about their civic duties, including contributing to state and national development through tax compliance.
As part of the proposed partnership, Salami recommended quarterly media interactions with KGIRS to publicize its activities and promote transparency. He also commended the Executive Chairman and the agency’s management team for their achievements in boosting revenue for the state, enabling the government to provide essential amenities to its people.
In his response, Alhaji Salihu Sule Enehe, the Executive Chairman of KGIRS, expressed satisfaction with the existing cordial relationship between the agency and journalists in Kogi. He assured that the partnership would be sustained to achieve shared goals of accelerated development and effective revenue mobilization.
Enehe reiterated his commitment to maintaining professionalism and transparency in the agency’s operations, noting that the collaboration with journalists would significantly enhance the agency’s efforts to generate resources for the state’s growth.
