NUPRC distributes relief materials to flood victims in A’Ibom

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has distributed relief materials to flood victims in Oil and Gas host communities in Akwa Ibom.

The Head, NUPRC Eket Office, Mr Etukudoh Williams who distributed the relief materials in Eket Local Council on Tuesday said that property worth millions of naira was destroyed during the period in Eket, Eastern Obollo, Mbo,Ibeno, Ikot Abasi and Nsit Ibom.

Williams said management approved the token which included mattresses, groundnut oil, blankets and rice for all the flood-impacted communities, as part of the commission’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative especially during the Yuletide.

“As we are all aware, the past few months have been difficult for many in the flood-affected communities.
It has been mixed feelings, despair and uncertainty in the minds of the flood victims, especially during yuletide when we were all celebrating in our homes with our families.

“Many have been dislocated in various parts of the country, as well as in our communities here in Akwa Ibom, property and means of livelihood has been destroyed due to the ravaging impact of the flood.” Williams said.

He commended the Federal Government, Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Organised Private Sector for the support and assistance to the communities but added that more was still needed to be done to ameliorate the suffering of the victims.

Also speaking, chairmen of Eastern Obollo and Ikot Abasi Local Councils, Mr Abraham Odion and Mr Joshua Afia commended the commission for the laudable gesture, said that this would be the first of it’s kind to communities of flood victims in the state.

They promised that the relief materials would be shared judiciously to the affected victims in the state and requested more from the commission to the ravaged communities.
