…. Sokoto Legionnaires Rake In 28.8 m, Food, Machines
About N28.8 million was realized at the launching of the 2023 emblem for armed forces remembrance day in Sokoto state today.
The state government gave the highest donation of N10 million while the chief launcher, Alhaji Aminu Maigona donated N5 million.
Bello Muhammad also said the state Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal also announced his personal donation of N1 million, his Deputy, N750, 000 and each member of the state executive council N100,000. He also announced the donation of N100,000 each by the 23 local government chairmen, and the Secretary to the State Government respectively; while Mr Nwodo Uzoson of Uzoson and Gas Limited donated N1 million naira among others.
Governor Tambuwal also flagged-off the distribution of sewing machines, grinding machines and food materials to widows of the fallen heroes, retired and aged legionnaires.
The governor at the ceremony urged government, corporate entities and the private citizens to appreciate the sacrifice made by the fallen heroes in the service of their fatherland by contributing generously to the emblem week fund raising, which is specifically dedicated to the welfare of the retired military personnel and families of those who made the supreme sacrifice.
He said the Nigerian Army have contributed in no small measure to the unity, peace and stability of the country. “They have also expanded the frontiers of their contributions to other nations through their participation in various ECOWAS, African Union and the United Nations peace keeping missions in West Africa, Africa and the world at large.
“In all these operations, our military have excelled in their discipline, patriotism and professionalism,” he added.
According to him, the nation owes the families of these heroes a debt of showing appreciation for their unquantifiable valour and gallantry without which the relative peace we are enjoying today would not have been possible.
“There is nothing we would do that can be considered too much for these great personalities, who have done so much to keep our nation as one Indivisible entity,” he maintained.
He said on its part. the state government will continue to support the serving, retired military personnel and the families of the deceased through active collaboration with the leadership of Nigerian Legion in the state.
60 sewing machines were given to widows of the fallen heroes in order to improve their means of livelihood to be able to take care of their children. “We intend to do more in that direction so that the labor of our retiree and fallen heroes will not be in vain,” the Governor added.
While commending the security agencies in the state, the governor said, Sokoto State Government will not relent in its efforts towards supporting them to carry out their legitimate duties of ensuring peace and normalcy in the state.
The governor called on all the Security Agencies to put in more efforts in curbing the current alarming security challenges in the state and the country.
