The National Executive Council (NEC) of the National Youth Alliance (NYA) has approved the appointment of five State Chairmen to lead the organisation across the South-East geopolitical zone, in a move aimed at strengthening grassroots mobilisation and expanding youth participation in national development. The approval was announced following an NEC meeting, where the Council affirmed that the appointments align with NYA’s broader strategy to deepen its presence at the state level and empower young people to play more active roles in governance, peacebuilding, and socio-economic development.

According to the NEC, the newly appointed State Chairmen were selected based on their demonstrated commitment, leadership capacity, and ability to mobilise youths in their respective states in line with the core ideals of the National Youth Alliance. The approved appointments are as follows: Comrade Ugu Boniface Ozoemena for Ebonyi State; Comrade Anyikude Keneth Uzomma for Imo State; Comrade Ibekwe Chisom Gabriel for Anambra State; Comrade Ilo Ifeanyi Anthony for Enugu State; and Comrade Enyioma Godslove Sopuruchi for Abia State.

The NEC noted that the appointments reflect its confidence in the ability of the new State Chairmen to promote unity, strengthen organisational structures, and provide purposeful leadership for young people across the South-East region. In a charge to the appointees, the Council emphasised the need to uphold the values of discipline, inclusiveness, transparency, and selfless service in the discharge of their duties. The NEC also urged them to work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to advance youth empowerment initiatives and foster peace and stability in their states. The Council further highlighted the strategic importance of the South-East zone in the Alliance’s national agenda, stressing that effective leadership at the state level is essential to driving sustainable youth-focused programmes and enhancing civic engagement.“

The success of the National Youth Alliance depends largely on strong, accountable, and visionary leadership at the grassroots,” the NEC stated, adding that the new chairmen are expected to translate the Alliance’s vision into measurable impact within their states. The National Youth Alliance congratulated the newly appointed State Chairmen and called on youths, partners, and stakeholders across the South-East to offer their full cooperation and support to ensure the successful implementation of NYA programmes and policies. The NEC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the State Chairmen through guidance and institutional backing, as the Alliance continues to position itself as a credible platform for youth development, advocacy, and national cohesion.
