Otu Lits Cross River With Solar Power as Public Power Supply Worsens

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State is currently making efforts to lessen the burden of the electorate in the power sector. Apparently piqued by the epileptic power supply and the rising costs of petroleum products and cost of maintaining generating sets in the state, the governor has inaugurated a 200 KVA solar power Infrastructure to provide alternative and cleaner power supply to some selected government offices.

Performing the ceremony at the office complex of the state Accountant General, Governor Otu expressed delight that the state is harnessing technology for development and economic growth. He revealed that the state has established the Cross River State Portal, along with various payment portals and applications, to enhance efficiency and boost revenue generation.

Otu underlined that the deployment of solar power infrastructure and the restoration of fibre links for internet connectivity demonstrate a dedication to creating an environmentally friendly setting and advancing technological infrastructure within government offices.

He attributed the state’s achievements in digital innovation, science, and technology as a testament to the hard work, dedication, and commitment of the Ministry of Science.

The offices connected to the alternative power are the office of the Accountant General, the state Internal Revenue Service, Due Process and Price Intelligence Bureau, Office of the Surveyor General, the Cross River State Geographic Information Agency, and the College of Health Technology.

In her speech, the state Accountant General, Mrs. Glory Effiong,noted that the technological solutions supported by solar power enables the State to monitor revenue and transactions in government accounts in real time.

In his remarks, Dr. Justin Beshel the state Commissioner for science and technology, highlightef the state’s accomplishments in digital innovation, science, and technology, which led PRODA to establish its regional office in Cross River.

PRODA’s choice of Cross River further solidified the state’s position as a hub for innovation and technology, having won the .NG award as the best state in digital innovation, and the overall best in the last Techno EXPO organised by the Federal Ministry of Science, Innovation and Technology.

These achievements, the Commissioner continued, are products of a clear vision and strategic planning by the Ministry of Science and Technology to propel Cross River State to greater heights in the digital space and technological advancement.
