Popular Nigerian cleric, Pastor Paul Enenche, has paid a condolence visit to the Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, which was recently devastated by a deadly attack allegedly carried out by suspected herdsmen.
The attack, which occurred on Friday night, left over 200 people dead, including many internally displaced persons who had taken refuge at a local Catholic mission.
Pastor Enenche, accompanied by his wife, Dr. Becky Enenche, visited the community to sympathize with grieving families and offer spiritual and emotional support.
Photos and videos circulating online showed the couple consoling survivors and praying with bereaved residents amid the ruins of the attacked community.
Their visit sparked reactions on social media.
@notdeclanrice wrote, “This pastor even owns a private jet, but his members can’t afford two meals a day.”
On the other hand, @jenslaw_ commented, “This is commendable. Other pastors should follow suit. Imams should also show solidarity with the people of Benue and other affected regions. Their silence seems to imply support for the Fulani herdsmen’s atrocities. Remember, they share the same Islamic faith.”
The Yelewata massacre has reignited public outrage over Nigeria’s worsening security crisis, especially in the Middle Belt region, where farmer-herder clashes have claimed thousands of lives in recent years.
