The entire people of Osun State have been enjoined to develop the spirit of paying their taxes as at when due to strengthen the government in discharging its responsibilities to them.
The State governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola made this advice on Saturday in his hometown Iragbiji in Boripe Local Government area of the state, at the 27th Iragbiji Day and launching of a Development Fund.
According to the governor while addressing the residents of the Community who turned out enmass at the event, some programmes of the government like the O’meal, protection of lives and property as well as provision of amenities cannot be executed unless there are resources, adding that “government cannot continue to emphasis on revenue from the Federation Account.
“There is a plan on the way by the government to raise the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state without adding to the burden of the citizens.
” Development of towns rests with everybody and not the government alone” Oyetola added.
The governor used the occasion to admonish the parents to create adequate attention to the upbringing of their children because their tomorrow is key to the development of the nation.
Alhaji Oyetola, frowned that children have taken to bad habits like cultism and drug addiction. “Indeed, I am amazed at the behavior of many children these days.
The governor added further that, “bringing up kids should be the responsibility of everybody in the society as it obtained in the past because kids that continue to embrace bad habits will have a jeopardised future”.
Alhaji Oyetola who was highly elated at the well attended annual community event commended the community for its efforts at self-development activities especially the ongoing construction of a 4,500-seat Civic Centre adding that, the palace of the traditional ruler should be made more colourful.
However, governor and his friends promised N5 million to the development fund out of the estimated N10 million raised at the event.
People from all walks of life accompanied the governor to the event while the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdulrasheed Olabomi was the Chief host to some traditional rulers who were also in attendance.
