PDP Convention: Stakeholders To Decide On Zoning Sept. 9

The 92nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), presided over by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Elder Yemi Akinwonmi, has resolved to reconvene on September 9, 2021, to decide on the zoning of the party offices ahead of the October 31 national convention.

The PDP’s constitution provides for zoning of the presidential ticket, chairmanship and other slots between the Northern and Southern regions of the country.

Addressing newsmen at the end of the NEC meeting Saturday at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan said the NEC approved the October 30 to 31, 2021 convention date with Abuja as the venue.

Reports had it that the zoning formula to be decided at September 9, 2021, 93rd NEC meeting would be adopted by the convention, which is the highest decision-making organ of the party.

The convention will also throw up a new crop of National Working Committee (NWC) members who would administer the affairs of the party for an initial period of four years.

Mr Ologbondiyan said, “NEC has resolved that Abuja will be the venue of the PDP National Elective Convention slated for October 31, 2021. NEC to meet on the 9th of September to approve the various nominations into the respective national convention committees.

“NEC emphasized the indivisibility of the PDP, stresses the need to remain united as a party as we work assiduously towards removing the inept, indolent and corrupt APC from government, come 2023.

“Urges members to continue to make personal sacrifices in the overall interest of the party. Urges Nigerians to take a cue from our deliverables in our respective states as a sign of the improvements that our party wishes to deliver when elected in 2023.

“The party boasts of more experienced hands in party politics as well as governance, says its internal crisis management mechanism is far better than the operations of the APC as a party and even as government.

“NEC is confident that the PDP has earned the trust of Nigerians once again and our party will do better when given the opportunity to lead the nation.”

Daybrea reports that with the Cross River High Court Order of Friday, restraining Secondus from parading himself as the party’s National Chairman, Elder Yemi Akinwonmi remained the acting National Chairman at the time of filing this report.
