PDP Convention: Wike Calls for Inclusiveness, Unity, Renewal at PDP Convention

By Joyce Remi Babayeju

The FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has called on party members to embrace inclusiveness, unity, and renewal as key pillars for rebuilding and strengthening the party.

Wike made the call on Sunday at the 2026 PDP National Convention held
at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

He described the gathering as a turning point for the party after overcoming a major leadership crisis that once threatened its existence.

The FCT minister commended the party faithful for their resilience and steadfastness during the turbulent period, noting that their commitment helped preserve the party’s core values and restore it to its rightful owners.

According to him, members resisted divisive crises and rejected actions that undermined internal democracy and the rule of law, thereby positioning the party for a renewed future.

Wike also praised grassroots supporters across the country for their loyalty, despite challenges, saying their unwavering faith in the PDP contributed significantly to its survival and comeback.

He noted that while some political actors defected in pursuit of personal interests, committed members remained steadfast and hopeful for the party’s revival.

Wike emphasized that the PDP must now move forward by fostering unity and providing equal opportunities for all members, irrespective of past differences.

“The path to the future of our party must be anchored on inclusiveness, unity, and renewal. No one should be excluded, and everyone must be given an equal opportunity to contribute to the growth of the party,” he said.

He urged members to recommit themselves to the ideals of the party’s founding fathers and work collectively towards building a stronger platform capable of addressing the aspirations of Nigerians.

The minister further stressed the need to create avenues for greater grassroots participation, ensuring that the voices of the people remain central to the party’s direction.

He welcomed the over 2,500 delegates from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT and expressed optimism that the party would emerge stronger and more united in its quest to promote national development.
