PDP Demands Investigation and Compensation Over Sokoto Military Bombing

By Daniel Edu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic killing of innocent civilians in Sokoto State during a recent military operation. The party also demanded compensation for the families of the victims of the accidental airstrike, along with adequate medical care for the injured.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP expressed concern over the incident and urged the authorities to ensure that such a tragedy is prevented in the future.

The airstrike, which took place in Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa villages in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State, resulted in the deaths of at least ten villagers. The bombing occurred during a military operation aimed at targeting Lakurawa terrorists.

The PDP described the incident as deeply unfortunate and stressed the need for a comprehensive investigation to prevent similar occurrences. The party commiserated with the government and people of Sokoto over the loss and called on the military to maintain its efforts in combating terrorism while ensuring greater professionalism.

“The PDP commiserates with the people of Sokoto State over the tragic deaths and injuries caused by the accidental airstrike in Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa villages,” the statement read. “We demand an urgent, system-wide investigation into the incident to ensure the safety of civilians in the fight against terrorism.”

The party also referenced similar incidents in Kaduna State in December 2023 and September 2024, urging for concrete steps to avoid future civilian casualties.

The PDP extended its condolences to the victims’ families and called on the federal government to provide compensation for the deceased and ensure timely medical treatment for the wounded.
