In a significant development for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the PDP Northeast zone has officially endorsed Umar Damagum as its acting national chairman. This endorsement comes amid ongoing internal challenges within the party.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State made this announcement in a statement on Thursday, September 19. Representing the PDP chapters from Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, and Yobe states, Fintiri expressed confidence in Damagum’s leadership since he assumed office.
The statement, released by Fintiri’s chief press secretary, also referenced a Federal High Court order from Abuja. The court ruled that Damagum will remain in office and complete the tenure of the former national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, unless overturned by the court.
Fintiri commended party members for their support of Damagum and the current leadership, stating that the court’s decision benefits the PDP, its members, and the national democratic process. He also noted the party’s strong performance in the Northeast during the last elections, emphasizing that the region is well-deserving of the National Chairman position.
