PDP Suspends Dino Melaye Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

Must read

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Senator Dino Melaye, one of its prominent members, over accusations of engaging in anti-party activities.

According to a letter obtained by *Punch* on Friday, the decision was made by the executive committee of the Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 following the review of a disciplinary committee’s report that investigated Melaye’s recent actions. His conduct was found to be harmful to the party’s interests and unity, leading to his suspension.

This suspension is part of a series of recent actions taken by the PDP to uphold party discipline. For example, Peter Babalola, a chieftain from Osun State, was suspended in August 2024 for similar reasons, including not attending party meetings for two years. Similarly, former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom faced suspension from the PDP in Benue for alleged anti-party activities, alongside Senator Gabriel Suswam and others who were summoned over misconduct.

The decision to suspend Melaye reflects the party’s resolve to maintain internal order. The details surrounding his suspension are still emerging, with more information expected soon.

The resolution stated:
“Senator Dino Melaye’s conduct has brought embarrassment and disrepute to the party, making his continued membership untenable. Therefore, the Ward party exco hereby suspends Dino Melaye from the Peoples Democratic Party, effective immediately. The suspension aligns with the provisions of Article 59 (1) of the PDP constitution, which grants Ward party executives the authority to discipline erring members.”
