PDP wins Akwa Ibom Guber Election

Pastor Umo Bassey, the governorship candidate of the  Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Akwa Ibom State has been declared the governor-elect  of the State by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Making the declaration at INEC headquarters in Uyo, on Sunday, the INEC Returning Officer for the state, Professor Emmanuel Adigio who is also the Vice Chancellor of Nigeria Maritime University, Delta State  said, “having satisfied the requirements of the Law and scored the highest number of votes , I hereby declare Umo Eno of PDP the winner and returned elected”

He said that out of the 644,080 valid votes cast, PDP polled 354,348 votes to emerge the winner while the closest challenger, the Young Progressives Party,YPP scored 136,262 votes. 

He further said  that APC scored a total  votes of 129,602, NNPP scored  12,509 while the Labour party polled a total votes of 4,746.

Out of the 31 LGAs in the State, PDP won 29 council areas while YPP won in Ikono and Ibiono Ibom

Meanwhile, the party agent of the YPP, Amb Kelvin Umoh refused to sign the result sheet because of alleged irregularities and violence in the election while that of the APC, Ekperikpe Ekpo signed in protest.
