The Concerned PDP Youth of Gombe State has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from active political contests and instead take on a mentoring role to guide the next generation of leaders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking at a press conference in Gombe on Thursday, the group’s Chairman, Jamilu Adamu, acknowledged Atiku’s longstanding contributions to the party and Nigeria’s democratic growth, describing him as a statesman with an enduring legacy.
Adamu emphasized the importance of generational renewal within the PDP, urging party leadership to create space for young voices to rise and play meaningful roles in shaping the party’s future.
“We hold His Excellency Atiku Abubakar in high regard. His experience remains invaluable and can serve the party best through mentorship and strategic guidance,” Adamu said.
He clarified that the appeal was not meant as criticism but as a respectful proposal aimed at repositioning the PDP for long-term relevance and effectiveness.
Adamu stressed that embracing new ideas and empowering younger members is vital to revitalizing the party and strengthening its role as a credible opposition.
Reaffirming their loyalty to the PDP, he called on all stakeholders to prioritize unity, inclusiveness, and innovation as the party charts a course forward.
“We hope our message is taken in the spirit of dialogue and progress,” he concluded.
