Peace Accord Signed by Ilobu and Ifon Communities Amid Communal Clash; Curfew Remains in Place

October 7, 2023

In the wake of the recent communal conflict between Ilobu and Ifon communities in Osun State, the State Government has announced that both communities have signed a peace accord, bringing an end to the ongoing violent clashes.

Over the past few days, these two communities have been engaged in hostilities that have resulted in the loss of lives and extensive property damage. In response, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke imposed a 24-hour curfew in Irepodun and Orolu local government areas.

However, the State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. Kolapo Alimi, stated in a release on Saturday that despite the peace agreement, the 24-hour curfew imposed on the two communities would remain in effect.

The statement explained, “Ilobu, Ifon, and Okanla communities have committed to peace during a meeting held with their representatives by Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi on Friday evening. The meeting also resolved that individuals or groups found violating the terms of the peace agreement will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.”

The resolutions from the meeting included, “Ifon and Ilobu Communities of Orolu and Irepodun local governments have agreed to immediately halt hostilities following the signing of a Peace Agreement. Notwithstanding this positive development, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Executive Governor of Osun State in his role as the Chief Security Officer of the state, directs that the 24-hour Curfew previously imposed in Orolu and Irepodun local governments, which encompass Ifon and Ilobu communities, will continue until further notice.”
