Sources from the community who spoke to our correspondent said the gunmen stormed the community at about 10 Pm on Thursday night and opened fire on innocent persons mourning the death of their loved ones .

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina in a statement made available to newsmen in Jos and signed by DSP Alfred Alabo ,the Police Public Relations officer of the command reads that the  command wishes to express his deepest sympathies and condolence to the families of the deceased and the entire people of Plateau State following the regrettable incident that occurred on the night of 27th March, 2025 in Ruwi Village of the State.

According to the statement on the  27th March 2025 at about 10:00pm, the Command received a report of some unknown armed hoodlums who invaded Ruwi village at about 09:20pm and started shooting sporadically. As a result, some law abiding citizens of the community who were at a wake-keep ceremony mourning the demise of their loved ones unfortunately lost their lives, while others secured varying degrees of injuries.

Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed the DPO Bokkos division to mobilize and deploy officers to the scene for necessary action.

The CP assured  the good people of Plateau State that the Command under his leadership remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of the lives and properties of the good and peace loving citizens of Plateau State; as we are doing everything necessary within our Constitutional powers to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous and inhuman act are arrested and made to face the full weight of the law.

He urged  the citizens of Ruwi village and the surrounding communities to remain calm and cooperate with the Police as we work together to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In a related development Plateau State Government  has condemned in strong terms the killing of innocent persons following an attack by gunmen at  Ruwi community of Bokkos Local government council of the state on Thursday 28th  March 2025 .

This was contained in a statement signed by Hon Joyce Ramnap the Commissioner for Information and Communication of the state and made available to newsmen in Jos .

The state government while sympathising with the deceased families  condemned in totality the  acts of lawlessness and said the unholy act undermines government’s effort in entrenching harmonious living among all persons resident in the state.

The Barrister Caleb Mutfwang administration would  not  tolerate brutal killings of innocent citizens  in any parts of the state.

We direct  security agencies to hunt and track down the perpetrators of the heinous crimes and ensure justice for the victims.

We urge our  citizens to remain calm as security operatives carry on their investigation.

On behalf of the Plateau state Governor, his Excellency  Bar Caleb Mutfwang , we expressed  heartfelt condolences to the affected families and prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and heal the injured.
