The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of an 80-year-old woman, Mrs. Theresa Igbojonu, in Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects, identified as Chidiebere Igboanugo and Emmanuel Ibeabuchi—both from Umunwaji Ogboro in Ihiala—allegedly tied the elderly woman’s legs and mouth before killing her. They reportedly fled the scene with her black CG motorcycle, which has since been recovered.
Ikenga disclosed that the investigation began after the incident was reported to the police on April 2, 2025, at about 11:30 p.m.
“The Ihiala Divisional Police Station currently has in custody Chidiebere Igboanugo and Emmanuel Ibeabuchi over the murder of 80-year-old Mrs. Theresa Igbojonu. She was tied up and murdered in her residence, and her motorcycle was stolen,” the statement read.
The breakthrough came on April 5, when a joint security patrol in Ihiala apprehended Chidiebere after the victim’s son spotted the stolen motorcycle being ridden by the suspect near Ezego Junction.
Following his arrest, Chidiebere reportedly confessed and led police to the second suspect, Emmanuel Ibeabuchi, who was apprehended on April 7. He also named two other members of their gang—known as Alla and Emeka—who are currently on the run.
The Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Awka for further investigation. He also directed officers to intensify efforts to track down the remaining suspects.
Ikenga confirmed that the arrested individuals will be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.
