Police Inspector Dismissed Over $3,000 Extortion in Rivers State

The Rivers State Police Command has taken decisive action against one of its officers, Inspector Michael Odey, who was implicated in an extortion case involving $3,000.

Inspector Odey, along with two Assistant Superintendents of Police, Doubara Edonyabo and Talent Mungo, allegedly kidnapped and extorted two individuals, leading to the confiscation of the equivalent of N4.2 million.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, the money has been recovered and returned to the victims. Inspector Odey has been dismissed from the police force following orderly room proceedings.

While the dismissal of Inspector Odey has been finalized, the fate of the two Assistant Superintendents of Police is pending review by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Police Service Commission to ensure a fair resolution.

In an official statement titled, ‘Update: Rivers State Police Command addresses extortion case involving three police officers,’ Iringe-Koko emphasized the commitment of the command to transparency and accountability.

She noted that the disciplinary process for ASPs Doubara Edonyabo and Talent Mungo involves thorough review by the Inspector General of Police and the Police Service Commission to ensure justice.

Residents are urged to report any misconduct by law enforcement agents promptly, with assurances that all reports will be taken seriously and appropriate actions will be taken to uphold fairness and justice.
