Police kill notorious A’Ibom kidnap kingpin

Operatives from the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have eliminated a notorious kidnapping kingpin, Ubong Effiong Archibong, also known as ‘Condiment,’ who led the Bling Bling Marine Strike Force. This group was notorious for its criminal activities in the region.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, in Uyo on Thursday, Archibong was killed during a gun battle with police operatives at his hideout in Uyanga Community, Cross River State. During the operation, a G3 rifle with ammunition was recovered from the scene.

Archibong had been linked to several high-profile kidnapping and murder cases, including the abduction of High Court Judge Joy Unwana and the murder of her police orderly, Inspector ThankGod Edet, last year. He was also implicated in the brutal killing of the CEO of Emem and Sons Nig. Ltd and the kidnapping of his sales representative, as well as the abduction of Pharmacist Joemel and Mr. Brown, CEO of Mingles Hotel.

The statement from the police reads: “On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command neutralized a dreaded kidnap kingpin and sea pirate known for his involvement in kidnapping, murder, and other violent crimes in society. The suspect, Ubong Effiong Archibong, alias ‘Condiment,’ was the leader of the Bling Bling Marine Strike Force, which has been terrorizing the Uruan/Oron waterways.”

“The suspect was neutralized during a gun battle with operatives of the Command at his hideout in Uyanga Community, Cross River State. A G3 rifle with four live rounds of ammunition was recovered from him. The suspect’s body has been deposited at the morgue. Investigations are ongoing with the aim of apprehending other members of the gang,” the statement concluded.

The police have reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on criminal elements and ensuring the safety and security of residents in the region.
