The Enugu State Police Command paraded two suspects involved in the killing of Chief Stephen Aniagu, Chairman of the Ogbete Main Market Traders Association (OMMATA), on September 14, 2024. The police arrested Chukwudi Aboshi and Ani Innocent Ebuka in November, and both suspects confessed to their involvement during questioning.
The suspects explained that they shot Aniagu for “proving stubborn,” along with another driver whom they shot during the robbery. Six other members of their criminal gang remain at large, and the police continue their efforts to capture them.
During a press briefing, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Daniel Ndukw shared that the suspects revealed details about their criminal operations, including their camp in Mmaku, Awgu Local Government Area. They named additional gang members involved in robberies across the region.
The suspects admitted to stealing vehicles at gunpoint, including a Toyota Corolla, using AK-47 rifles and pump-action shotguns. Aboshi explained that Obinna, the gang leader, gave him charms for protection.
Enugu State Police Commissioner Anayo Uzuegbu commended the state government for its support in the investigation. Governor Peter Mbah reaffirmed his commitment to eradicating crime, warning criminals that they would not find refuge in the state.
