Popular Writer, Chimamanda Adichie, loses 88-year-old father

Multiple award winning Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Adichie has lost her 88 year old father, Prof. James Nwoye Adichie to the cold hands of death. Adichie passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday night at Chira Memorial Hospital, Awkuzu, Anambra state. He was an Emeritus Professor of Statistics and Mathematics at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).

The writer who was born in the city of Enugu in Nigeria grew up as the fifth of six children in the university town of Nsukka in Enugu State. While she was growing up, her father, James Nwoye Adichie, worked as a professor of statistics at the University of Nigeria. Her mother, Grace Ifeoma, was the university’s first female registrar.The family lost almost everything during the Nigerian Civil War, including both maternal and paternal grandfathers. Her family’s ancestral village is in Abba in Anambra State.
