Potential Consequences for PDP and Labour Party if APC Obtains Minority Leader, According to Shehu Sani

Must read

Former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has shared his concerns about the future of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party if the All Progressive Congress (APC) secures the Minority Leader position in the 10th National Assembly.

During an interview with Arise Television on June 26, Sani expressed his belief that the ruling APC aims to have a Minority Leader who will be subservient to them. He warned that such a scenario would be detrimental to the PDP and the Labour Party, potentially leading to their demise.

Sani alleged that the PDP has entrusted its responsibility as the main opposition party to the Labour Party. He observed that the prominence of the Labour Party in opposition activities is a result of the PDP relinquishing its role.

While emphasizing that he does not advocate for confrontation between the legislature and the executive, Sani stressed the importance of maintaining the independence of the National Assembly. He argued that if the APC obtains complete control, the National Assembly’s integrity and independence would be compromised.

In a parliamentary system, the Minority Leader holds a significant position as the alternative government. Sani expressed his belief that having a Minority Leader who genuinely represents the opposition’s role would be more beneficial for the country.

It is important to note that this statement represents the views of Shehu Sani and may not necessarily reflect the current political dynamics or future outcomes.
