By   Milcah   Tanimu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hosted a meeting with Ogoni leaders, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike at the State House in Abuja. The meeting focused on fostering peace, justice, and sustainable development in Ogoniland.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga revealed that Tinubu emphasized the importance of mutual trust and collaboration to correct past injustices. The President tasked the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, with coordinating ongoing negotiations.

Tinubu stated, “We must bring peace, development, and a clean environment back to Ogoniland. Go back, consult widely, and embrace others to make this effort worthwhile.”

Governor Fubara thanked Tinubu for his support and highlighted the meeting as a step toward resuming oil production in Ogoniland. National Security Adviser Mallam Ribadu commended the Ogoni people for trusting the President’s vision of inclusive dialogue.

The delegation, led by Governor Fubara and Senator Lee Maeba, included prominent Ogoni leaders like Senators Magnus Abe and Olaka Nwogu, Chief Victor Giadom, and King Festus Babari Bagia Gberesaako XIII, among others.

Also in attendance were the Minister of Environment, the Group CEO of NNPCL, and other top officials. After the initial meeting, discussions continued at the National Security Adviser’s office.

The meeting reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to engaging with Ogoni leaders to address their concerns and ensure a sustainable path forward.
