Ramadan: Emir of Kano seeks reduction of food prices

Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, the Emir of Kano, has urged traders to lower the prices of food items and other essentials to facilitate the observance of Ramadan for the masses.

Speaking on Sunday in Zaria during the launch of the book “Dauloli a Kasar Hausa” (Kingdoms in Hausaland) by Prof. Sa’idu-Mohammed Gusau, the royal leader emphasized the importance of affordability during the holy month.

Ado-Bayero also encouraged affluent individuals to assist the less privileged during Ramadan and prayed for the well-being of all, hoping that they would witness the sacred month in good health while their prayers and sacrifices are accepted.

The emir commended the book’s publisher for shedding light on the administrative systems, trades, norms, and values of the Hausa kingdoms across various regions including Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Zazzau.

He praised the book’s comprehensive coverage, stating that it offers valuable insights into the history and governance of the Hausa kingdoms.

In his review, Prof. Ahmed Zaria from Kaduna State University highlighted the book’s seven chapters spanning 356 pages, providing a detailed narrative of the political, administrative, and cultural aspects of the Hausa kingdoms from their inception to the present day.

Prof. Zaria emphasized the book’s significance for students and researchers in linguistics and history, urging academics to remain committed to research even after attaining the professorial rank.

The publisher, Prof. Gusau, explained that the book aimed to consolidate the written history of the Hausa Kingdoms, addressing the lack of comprehensive research covering all kingdoms.

He emphasized the book’s role in fostering harmony and unity among the Hausa kingdoms and other communities in Nigeria.
