Remapping: Gov Eno sues for calm among affected communities

By Ogenyi Ogenyi,Uyo

Following the recent crisis generated by the remapping of the State,Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has urged the people of Ibeno, Mbo and Eastern Obolo Local Government areas to sheath their swords and maintain peace for the overall interest of the State.

Eno gave the advice yesterday at a meeting with stakeholders, including Chairmen, State House of Assembly members, and others from the affected communities held in Uyo.

The Governor noted that since the case was already in court, it was incumbent on all to give peace a chance and wait for the matter to be concluded accordingly.

He further appealed to the stakeholders to address their youths and advised them not to foment trouble as government would not tolerate the breakdown of law and order.

In their response, the stakeholders assured the Governor of total compliance and appreciated him for the meeting which they said was apt and timely.

At the meeting were the State Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, Economic Adviser, Dr. Uduakobong Inam, President of Oro Union, stakeholders, lawmakers and chairmen of the three Local Councils as well as heads of security agencies in the state.

Recall that tens of lives have been lost and properties worth millions of Naira destroyed following the uproar that greeted the remapping of the state by the last administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel shortly before he left office in May.

But indegenes of the three Local Councils have accused Emmanuel of tampering with the original map to favour his native ONNA people.
