Resemblance between Ifeanyi and my new son scary — Davido

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has described the striking resemblance between his late son, Ifeanyi, and his newborn son as “scary,” saying it feels as though Ifeanyi has returned.

Davido tragically lost his first son, Ifeanyi, in a drowning accident at his Banana Island residence on November 1, 2022. Following the loss, he quietly married his longtime partner, Chioma. In October 2023, nearly a year after the tragedy, the couple welcomed a set of twins — a boy and a girl — and later celebrated a lavish wedding in June 2024.

In a recent interview with Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1, Davido opened up about the emotional journey of healing, the joy of welcoming his twins, and the uncanny likeness between Ifeanyi and his newborn son.

“The boy looks just like my son (Ifeanyi) that passed. It’s scary. It’s literally him. We’re like, ‘No, it’s him. He came back,’” Davido said.
He added, “That type of loss makes you just want to disappear. I wanted to step back, focus on my wife and family, and get my head right. Then, being blessed with twins — it’s just God.”

Reflecting on how the experience changed him, the singer said it gave him new strength and purpose, allowing him to support others going through similar hardships. He credited his marriage and the success of his 2023 album Timeless as further proof that “God is real.”

Speaking about his music career, Davido said he feels fulfilled watching his dreams come true. He also revealed he and American artist Chris Brown have recorded about 20 songs together and hinted at a possible joint album, saying, “We could drop two albums right now. It’s going to happen.”

The singer also confirmed his involvement in the film industry, stating, “I’m an executive producer on a movie and a series with my director, Dammy Twitch. We’re also working on my documentary.”
