The residents of Bichi Emirate have expressed strong hopes of returning to their first-class emirate status, which was dissolved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Our correspondent visited the Bichi Emir’s palace on Friday, which has remained closed since the dissolution of the four emirates created during the Ganduje administration. Reports indicate that Bichi residents remain steadfast in prayers and advocacy for the return of their first-class emir amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the Kano Emirate.
Malam Hamisu Umar Zango, a resident of Bichi, stated: “We are still agitating for the return of our first-class emir because we have seen real development under the emirate council. The dissolution is a slap to the entire people of Bichi Emirate Council, but by the grace of God, our emir would return as the first-class monarch.”
Similarly, Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar from Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area criticized the dissolution of Gaya, Rano, Karaye, and Bichi emirates, describing it as a significant setback to the traditional institution. He stressed the need to reverse the dissolution to promote development across Kano State.
Ustaz Muhammad Adamu Gwarmai of Ghari Local Government Area raised concerns regarding the actions of the deposed Emir Sanusi. Gwarmai alleged that attempts to impose an individual as a district head are creating unnecessary confusion in Bichi Emirate, especially while the Kano Emirate issue remains in court.
He further stated: “What the security forces did in preventing Sanusi from coming to Bichi was a wise decision because we don’t need his representative until the final court judgment. Nobody is above the law.”
Our correspondent’s interactions with residents and attendance at several public gatherings in Bichi town revealed that most residents are pleased with the security agencies’ actions in blocking Sanusi from entering Bichi. They view these measures as necessary to preserve peace and stability in the region.
The residents’ optimism remains high as they continue to advocate for the restoration of their first-class emirate status, believing it will foster development and growth in the area.
