Ruben Amorim’s Bold Faith in Senne Lammens Pays Off as Rio Ferdinand Delivers Five-Word Verdict

Manchester United’s dramatic 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield has breathed new life into their season — and one player at the heart of that revival is goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

The 23-year-old Belgian, who joined United from Royal Antwerp for £18 million in the summer, played a starring role in Sunday’s win — United’s first at Anfield since 2016 — as Ruben Amorim’s men battled past the reigning champions to claim all three points.

Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring early for United before Cody Gakpo equalised late on. But captain Harry Maguire’s towering header sealed the win, with Lammens’ composure and crucial saves proving vital in Amorim’s second straight Premier League triumph.

Lammens praises Amorim’s leadership

Speaking after the game, Lammens hailed Amorim for shielding his players from external pressure, particularly during a turbulent period for the club.

“For me, he’s always the same,” Lammens said. “You can feel the pressure from the outside — you read it, you hear it — but he does his best to keep that pressure off the players and take it on himself. That’s what great managers do.”

Amorim’s approach appears to be paying dividends. Once written off, United now look reinvigorated — a side rediscovering belief under a manager who refuses to buckle.

Ferdinand gives glowing five-word review

Lammens’ assured display didn’t go unnoticed. Club legend Rio Ferdinand, speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, was full of praise for the young keeper.

“He’s only played two games, I don’t want to get carried away, but he’s been very dependable,” Ferdinand said.
“Safe, dependable, assured, assertive, calm — those are the five words I’d use to describe him.”

The former defender added that such traits “instil confidence in the back line,” something United have sorely missed in recent months.

Maguire echoes Ferdinand’s sentiment

Match-winner Harry Maguire also lauded the Belgian shot-stopper, saying:

“I must say I’m heavily impressed by Senne Lammens. Goalkeeper is the most difficult position at Manchester United, but he’s got everything — great ability, great personality.”

With Lammens seizing his chance and Amorim’s faith unwavering, Manchester United may have just found the stability they’ve been craving — both between the sticks and in the dugout.

If performances like this continue, Sunday’s victory at Anfield could mark the turning point of their season — and perhaps, the beginning of a new era under Ruben Amorim.
