Sacked ministers to hand over October 30

Must read

President Bola Tinubu has directed all redeployed and dismissed ministers to complete their handover process to their successors by October 30, 2024. In ministries where no incoming minister has been appointed, the outgoing ministers are required to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries.

This follows Tinubu’s recent announcement during a Federal Executive Council meeting, where he redeployed 10 ministers, dismissed five, and appointed seven new ones, pending National Assembly approval.

In a statement from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, it was confirmed that the merging of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, as well as changes in the Sports Development Ministry, are being coordinated by the SGF’s office and the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.

The statement emphasized that all handover processes must be completed by October 30, 2024. In ministries lacking incoming ministers, Permanent Secretaries will oversee the handover.

Additionally, the merger and reorganization of ministries, such as the renaming of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development to the Ministry of Regional Development, will take immediate effect. The SGF has notified relevant authorities and commissions of these changes. The Ministry of Regional Development will oversee commissions such as the Niger Delta Development Commission, South East Development Commission, North East Development Commission, and North West Development Commission. Permanent Secretaries are required to ensure a smooth transition and provide handover notes to the SGF’s office for record-keeping.
