Saudi Pro League: Ronaldo has no influence over league decisions

The Saudi Pro League has dismissed suggestions that Cristiano Ronaldo can influence decisions beyond his club, stressing that no player, regardless of profile, has authority over league matters.

The statement followed reports surrounding the 41-year-old Portugal forward’s absence from Al-Nassr’s squad for Monday’s league match against Al-Riyadh. Media reports in Portugal claimed Ronaldo declined to play amid alleged frustration with the club’s management.

Ronaldo later sought to quell speculation by posting a photo of himself back in training. However, uncertainty remains over his availability for Al-Nassr’s league fixture against Al-Ittihad on Friday.

Responding to the reports, the Saudi Pro League reiterated that its governance structures operate independently of individual players, noting that influence is limited strictly to club-level matters.

Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr in 2023, remains one of the league’s highest-profile players and a central figure in Saudi football’s global expansion. His recent omission has nonetheless sparked debate about internal dynamics at the club and his role ahead of a key fixture.

Al-Nassr have yet to officially confirm whether the forward will feature against Al-Ittihad.
