Senate Commences Screening of Yemi Cardoso for CBN Governor Role

By Daniel Edu

The Nigerian Senate has officially begun the screening process for Olayemi Cardoso, the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), along with four other nominees for deputy governor positions at the apex bank. These nominations were put forth by President Bola Tinubu.

Last week, President Tinubu endorsed Cardoso as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, pending his confirmation by the Senate. In the interim, Cardoso has been serving as the acting Governor.

The four deputy governor nominees being screened alongside Cardoso are Emem Nnana Usoro, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor, and Bala Bello.

The Senate’s initiation of the screening process came in response to a motion presented by the Majority Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele.
