Senator Ned Nwoko Donates 10M and Pledges Support for Youth Sports Development at Senate President’s Cup

Senator Ned Nwoko, Acting Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, has pledged his full support for youth sports development at the 10th Senate President’s Cup. The tournament, featuring U-18 boys, took place at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja and was themed *The Renewed Hope Edition*. Nwoko made the announcement during the closing ceremony, reinforcing his dedication to fostering young talent in Nigerian sports.

Representing Senate President Godswill Akpabio GCON, Senator Nwoko expressed his admiration for the exceptional skills and passion displayed by the athletes. “I was thrilled by the talents showcased. Many of these players will eventually play for national teams and top international clubs such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester City,” he said.

Nwoko, a long-time advocate for youth development in sports, highlighted the importance of identifying and nurturing young talent early. “I am passionate about discovering and developing youth talent, which is why my project, the Sports University, is so important. I look forward to hosting future editions of this tournament at my university,” he added.

The final match of the tournament saw Greatness Sporting Club of Ebonyi state triumph over Qatar Academy of Bornu state in a penalty shootout after a tense 0-0 draw. In the third-place match, Tanko Baba Academy of Nasarawa state narrowly lost to Kebbi Selected, also on penalties, 5-4.

Senator Nwoko also made a generous donation of ten million naira to the four semifinalist teams, urging them to continue pursuing their sports dreams with determination.

Senator Ita Enang, Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee, praised the tournament’s success and revealed plans for next year’s edition. He also thanked Tournament Coordinator Hon. John Bassey Ekpeyoung for his tireless efforts in ensuring the event’s success.

The Senate President’s Cup not only showcased the remarkable skills of Nigeria’s young athletes but also highlighted the strong commitment of leaders like Senator Nwoko to supporting the next generation of sports stars.
