The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has given clarification to recent reports regarding the tenure of Professor Abdullahi Mustapha as Director General, National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA).
This is contained in a statement signed by the Director, Information and Public Relations, to the office of the SGF, Segun Imohiosen.
The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation stated that the reappointment of any Chief Executive of a Federal Government Agency is the exclusive prerogative of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in accordance with extant laws and regulations.
The statement noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally approved the reappointment of Professor Abdullahi Mustapha as Director General of NBRDA for a final term of five (5) years with effect from 31st October, 2024.
“The role of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) is to convey appointments, issue appointment letter and document the appointee.” It added.
“While the SGF’s office has rightly clarified that it does not unilaterally appoint or extend the tenure of agency heads, it is important to emphasize that the SGF acts strictly on the President’s directives, which has been the case in this instance. The claims of tenure illegality, “impunity,” and alleged procedural breaches are therefore unfounded and misleading.” It stated.
The statement therefore enjoined the public, stakeholders, and concerned parties to disregard the false narratives in circulation.
