Sokoto Assembly to Pass Vote of Confidence on Governor Ahmad Aliyu

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Sokoto State House of Assembly is set to pass a vote of confidence on Governor Ahmad Aliyu in recognition of his achievements and delivery of democratic dividends since assuming office.

Speaking on the floor of the Assembly, Speaker Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga praised the governor’s performance across key sectors, noting that over 250 projects were completed in 2024, with more initiatives underway in 2025.

Among the achievements highlighted were:

  • Infrastructure Development: Execution of numerous road and public facility projects across the state.
  • Economic Empowerment: Launch of the “Katin Sauki” shop initiative, which provides subsidized food items to civil servants and pensioners.
  • Security Measures: Acquisition of over 140 Buffalo vehicles and motorcycles, as well as the construction of a new military base in Illela, aimed at combating banditry and ensuring public safety.

Bodinga described Governor Aliyu’s leadership style as humble, accountable, and transparent, stressing that these qualities, along with his ability to take bold decisions for the state’s progress, make him deserving of another term.

He announced that the Assembly will formally urge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to grant Governor Aliyu an automatic ticket for the 2027 governorship election.

“The vote of confidence reflects our appreciation of Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s commitment to development and the welfare of the people. The Assembly is confident in his capacity to continue leading Sokoto State on the path of progress,” the Speaker said.

The motion is expected to receive unanimous support from members of the House.
