Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway to Boost Trade, Regional Integration

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway project, a major infrastructure initiative, is set to boost economic activities and business opportunities across Nigeria.

The 1,068-kilometre superhighway will link Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos states. It is designed to enhance trade, improve security, and promote regional integration while reducing transportation costs.

Officials say the project will stimulate economic growth, attract foreign investment, and create jobs along its corridor.

Addressing journalists in Sokoto, Minister of State for Works, Muhammad Bello Goronyo, said the superhighway would open up numerous business opportunities and connect Nigeria to neighbouring countries, including Niger and Mali.

The project is being handled by Hitech Construction Company Ltd, which has deployed modern equipment to accelerate work.

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, disclosed that 10 kilometres of the highway have so far been completed on both sections 1A and 1B.

He said the Sokoto-Kebbi axis of the project is estimated to cost about ₦3 trillion, with completion expected in 2026. Umahi assured that the entire project would be delivered under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as a key legacy project.

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, commended the initiative, saying it reflects Tinubu’s commitment to equitable infrastructure development across Nigeria.
