Sokoto INEC Conducts Elections Stakeholders Forum Meeting For Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency

Speaking at the brief ceremony, the Sokoto INEC Administrative Secretary,Barr. Hauwa Aliyu Kangiwa explained that it is necessary as a result of the Court order that re-run elections be conducted in 18 RAs, 46PUs across 4 local governments of Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency, Bodinga north and Tambuwal west.

This however covers one Federal Constituency and two state constituencies respectively.

Similarly, in compliance to the Court order and conformity with the electoral act 2022 part IV- procedure at election section 28 (3) provides for notice of elecrion which states that “in the case of a bye-election, the Commission shall, not later 14 days before the date appointed for the election, publish a notice stating the date of election”.

As notice of election was in affected areas was published to commence on January 4th and campaigns on January 5th and ends on February 1st it became imperative on INEC to give relevant electoral statistics of those affected polling units, RAs and Constituencies as contained in the Court order.

Speaking on the election materials, Barr. Kangiwa said ballot papers and result sheets will be brought to Sokoto for distribution to respective LGAs on 2nd February 2024.

She then commended the contributions of critical stakeholders for the success recorded in the state in the electoral process saying the security agencies are ready ti discharge their constitutional responsibilities,media representatives for their diligent reporting.

Head of department of Electoral Operations Dr. AbdulMumini Usman and Political parties representatives offered advices and contributions towards successful conduct of the elections.
