Sokoto L-PRES Trains Livestock Stakeholders on Antimicrobial Resistance

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) in Sokoto State has taken a significant step toward addressing the growing threat of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) by organizing a specialized training session for animal health service providers, value chain operators, and veterinary drug vendors.

The training aims to enhance participants’ understanding of AMR, improve animal husbandry practices, and promote sustainable alternatives to antibiotic dependence in livestock production.

Participants were also educated on preventive measures such as biosecurity and vaccination, with the goal of reducing reliance on antimicrobials and encouraging responsible use.

State Project Coordinator, Sirajo Abubakar, underscored the importance of the training for livestock specialists, describing it as a critical move toward reducing the risks associated with antimicrobial misuse.

He noted that building technical capacity among stakeholders will significantly contribute to the rational use of antimicrobials in both livestock and aquaculture sectors.
