The Sokoto State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has inaugurated a State Advisory Council, comprising all past Chairmen of the Union in the state’s history.
According to a statement jointly signed by the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Dalhatu Abdullahi Safiyal Magori, and the Secretary, Muhammad Nasir, the initiative recognizes the contributions of these past leaders. As part of the effort, the Council has unveiled a banner featuring the names, pictures, and tenures of all past NUJ Chairmen in Sokoto State, which will be displayed prominently at the NUJ Press Centre in Sokoto.
During the inauguration ceremony, Comrade Safiyal Magori expressed pride in the establishment of the Advisory Council, describing it as the first of its kind in the state. He highlighted the Council’s importance as a consultative body that will provide guidance to the union’s leadership and foster unity and development among NUJ members in Sokoto State.
He called on the elder members to remain actively involved, emphasizing their role as key advisers to the State Working Committee (SWC) and the State Executive Council (SEC). “Your guidance and support are invaluable, and your contributions will always be appreciated,” he noted.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including former Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Gidado (Tafarkin Sokoto); retired Permanent Secretaries, Alhaji Sani Umar and Alhaji Abdullahi S/Danko; retired Manager News of Rima Radio Sokoto, Muhammad Abdullahi; the Managing Director of Sokoto State Media Corporation, Labaran Lumu Dundaye (Sardaunan Dundaye); and the Director of New Media at the State Ministry for Information and Orientation, Isah Abubakar Shuni.
