Sokoto State Government Commits N150 Million to AGILE Project

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Sokoto State Government has disbursed N150 million as counterpart funding for the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project, marking a significant investment in the state’s educational development.

This was revealed by the State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Muhammad Tukur Alkali, during a one-day training for enumerators on data collection for conditional cash transfers in targeted secondary schools. The commissioner, represented by Alhaji Abdulkadir Alkammawa, Director of Quality Assurance, stressed that the funding underscores the state’s commitment to the smooth execution of the AGILE project, which aligns with the government’s nine-point agenda prioritizing education.

Dr. Mansur Isa Buhari, the State Coordinator of the AGILE project, outlined that the initiative, set to begin in October, is a collaboration between the Sokoto State Government and the World Bank. The project focuses on improving adolescent girls’ education in select secondary schools. He also assured that the necessary structures are being put in place to ensure the project’s success.

Enumerators trained for the project expressed readiness to implement their newly acquired skills to meet the project’s objectives.
