The Sokoto State Government, under the leadership of Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, has taken a major step to support education by fully settling the examination fees for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the National Examinations Council (NECO), and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) for all final-year secondary school students in the state.
This initiative applies to both indigenes and non-indigenes residing in Sokoto State, reflecting the government’s inclusive approach to educational development.
According to the state government, the payment of registration fees for all eligible students ensures that no financial burden falls on parents or guardians. The move highlights Governor Aliyu’s administration’s commitment to expanding access to education and empowering students academically.
Parents, school administrators, and students are encouraged to take full advantage of the gesture by registering for and sitting all three examinations to maximize the opportunity provided.
In a statement issued by the government, the initiative is expected to ease the financial pressure on families and encourage higher participation in these key national examinations, ultimately boosting the academic prospects of students across the state.
A Unique and Comprehensive Educational Policy
Unlike many other states that typically sponsor only one of the national exams, Sokoto State’s decision to cover fees for all three—WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB—sets a precedent for a more comprehensive educational support policy.
A dedicated team from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has been tasked with overseeing the examination process to ensure compliance, transparency, and proper conduct throughout.
The state government also called on school administrators and community stakeholders to support the initiative by ensuring that all eligible students are registered and allowed to take the exams without hindrance.
The Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, extended his best wishes to all final-year students and offered prayers for their success in the forthcoming examinations.
