Sokoto state government says it has adopted necessary measures toward curtailing the menace of meningitis in the state

Commissioner for Health Dr Faruku Umar Abubakar Wurno stated that at a One day State level sensitisation campaign on Menigitis organised by the State Ward Development Committee WDC forum in collaboration with State Ministry of Health and the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency held in Alu ya gode hall in Sokoto south local government secretariat.

This he said was to ensure a healthy society. 

Information Officer Nura Maikwanci said Dr Faruk Abubakar Wurno explained that about three hundred people were affected by the disease in the state adding that, of the figure only sixteen are still receiving treatment in some local governments of the state while the rest have been discharged.

In their separate speeches,Special Adviser on State Primary Healthcare Development Agency Dr Muhammad Bello Marnona and Executive Secretary of the Agency Dr Larai Aliyu Tambuwal commended the foresight of State leadership of the WDC in that direction. 

Dr Muhd Bello Marnona and Dr Larai Aliyu Tambuwal said the disease is preventable and advised people to visit nearby health facility for necessary medication whenever they notice any abnormality. 

Also commenting, Chairman of the area Malam Ya’u Muhammad Danda represented by his Vice Alh Faruk Umar Garba described the occasion as timely. 

In his remarks, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar represented by the District Head of Gagi Alh Sani Umar Jabbi lauded the governor Dr Ahmed Aliyu led administration’s commitment toward improving Health status of its citizenry.

Earlier, speaking the State Chairman of the WDC Comrade Bala Gadanga Sokoto said the sensitisation which was first of its kind was organised considering the outbreak of the disease recently recorded in some local government areas of the state. 

Comrade Bala Gadanga similarly mentioned high fever, vomiting and stiffness of the neck as some signs of the disease.

Other speakers during the occasion were Vice chancellor SAISA University of Medical Sciences and Technology Prof. Abdullahi Suleiman Mainasara, Representatives of UNICEF and Medicines Sans Frontiers in the state.
