Governor Ahmed Aliyu stated that while
receiving Country Representative of Food and Agriculture Organization FOA for United Nations and ECOWAS Mr Koffy Dominic who paid a courtesy visit at Government House, Sokoto.
Director Press Deputy Governor’s office in a statement said Governor Ahmed Aliyu said this was inline with the state government’s commitment to achieving food security through policies and programmes that empower farmers, enhance irrigation system and promote agro-processing.
He expressed optimism that the organization would strengthen agricultural value chains,boost rural economies and improve livelihoods of the people.
The Governor also acknowledged the organization’s plan to visit project implementation sites in Rabah and Tangaza local government areas.
According to him, these communities would greatly benefit from the organisation’s expertise, technical support and intervention programmes aimed at enhancing food production and resilience against climate changes.
The Governor who spoke through his Deputy Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir assured of the State government’s total cooperation in implementing programmes that would benefit farmers and promote sustainable agriculture in the state.
Earlier,the Country Representative of Food and Agriculture Organization FOA for United Nations and ECOWAS Mr Koffy Dominic said the organisation in collaboration with France intend to support 3 key areas in the state.
These he said include supporting 1,700 children of 6-59 months with nutritious food so as to have balance diet.
Similarly, seeds and tools would also be distributed to women households to enable them engage in farming activities as well as teaching students on the best farming practice.
Mr Dominic commended the Deputy Governor for his tireless effort in active advocacy for the state on food security.
